Measuring and Layout

If you plan to install your own kitchen or bath cabinets, it is necessary to provide us a drawing of your space with accurate dimensions in order to be successful.  With this drawing we can assist you in the design process of your dream kitchen using our state of the art software.  Here are a few tips to help you in this process:

1)  When measuring, show all dimensions in inches and use a pencil for easy changes. Use graph paper if possible.

2)  Start with a rough drawing of the shape of your kitchen to log measurements.  Include doors, windows, breaks in the walls, and other obstructions.

3)  Begin measuring from a corner.  Start three feet off the floor and measure to the first opening or obstruction.  Note the measurement.  If its a window, door or an appliance, note the sizes on the drawing.  Continue to measure around the room in this manner.  Note any soffits.

4)  Note the location of all electrical outlets, wall switches and lighting fixtures.  Show all plumbing and gas connections.  Indicate door swing direction and where they lead.  Note the location of all ducts, and AC vents.

5)  Indicate any special features that affect the layout.  Check and note ceiling heights and any special ceiling transitions.  If reusing existing appliances, or purchasing new, provide measurements.

6)  Add up your individual measurements and check them against the wall measurement, and, against the opposite wall measurement.

If you want Best Design Center to handle all phases of your project,  a rough drawing is a helpful tool to begin the conversation and design process.  This can be a freehand sketch with as many measurements and requirements noted that you can think to supply.  Our design professional will take it from there and schedule a measure at your residence shortly after this original consultation.
